Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats.

Insurance companies will usually want to know the vessels fair market value.

HMS Surveyors are certified to perform ultrasonic surveys on steel or aluminum vessels.


The Pre-Purchase Survey is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. Inspection of bottom and running gear (short haul required). This type of survey includes a fair market value placed on the vessel.


The Condition & Valuation Survey is a comprehensive visual inspection and operational testing of equipment performed for the insurance underwriter to determine if the vessel is an acceptable risk.


The Apprasial Survey. The inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the subject vessel.


A Damage Inspection Survey is requested for many incidents such as collision, grounding, storm, vandalism, or boatyard incidents.

The best time for this inspection is when your insurance adjuster is on site.
In this case, the survey may be requested and paid by the insurance company.


An On-Hire/Off-Hire or Charter Survey may be requested by the lessor or the lessee of a vessel to determine establish and record conditions before and after a charter period.


New Construction Survey is performed during the construction process of a new vessel. We closely monitor the construction stages from initial order to delivery.
